Given the recent weather forecasts predicting unseasonably cold temperatures in our region over the next few days, there is a risk of freezing that could potentially harm your system's backflow preventer. The backflow preventer is a vital component of your irrigation system that keeps your drinking water safe by preventing any contaminants from the irrigation system from flowing back into your home's water supply.

To safeguard your backflow preventer from potential freeze damage, we recommend the following process to safeguard your backflow.

NOTE: If your irrigation system water supply is from the lake or a well, you most likely DO NOT have a backflow preventer.

HOW TO WRAP A BACKFLOW

1.  Find your backflow outside

2.  Wrap a towel or small blanket around the backflow.

3.  Cover the towel or blanket with a garbage bag.  Use duct tape to secure the bag so it will not blow off.

NOTE :  THIS WILL NOT KEEP YOUR BACKFLOW FROM FREEZING THIS WINTER.  THE WRAP IS ONLY TO PREVENT THE BACKFLOW FROM FREEZING WHILE THE TEMPERATURES DIP BELOW FREEZING AT NIGHT
